What Theodor Storm once called the “grey town by the sea” is yesterday and today a harbour town full of atmosphere, with history, things worth seeing and things worth loving.
In addition to the historic old town with its romantic alleys, the Theodor Storm House is, of course, an indispensable place to visit. Stroll through the beautiful castle garden, visit one of the exhibitions and concerts in a stylish setting.
There are also many opportunities to explore the surrounding area of Husum. For example, on one of the day trips to the islands of Nordstrand or Sylt, to Friedrichstadt, rich in tradition, or to Schleswig, Flensburg or Denmark.

Husum can be described in many different ways. Many details give the town the uniqueness it has today for the many visitors and locals. The historic old town with its stately gabled houses from the 16th century, the fishermen’s quarter with its picturesque alleys and small fishermen’s cottages, the large market square with its famous fountain on whose pedestal “Tine” is enthroned, the symbolic figure of Husum, a bronze fisherman’s wife created by the well-known sculptor Adolf Brütt in 1902.
The best way to experience Husum is on foot – it’s great and not at all strenuous. Guided tours on special topics, e.g. Storm tour, museums, St. Mary’s Church, are offered by knowledgeable and competent city guides.

“In the footsteps of Theodor Storm”: Husum became world-famous through Theodor Storm and his poem “The Town” and was immortalised in literature as the “grey town by the sea”. Night watchman tour. Who knows more exciting things to say about times long past and present than the night watchman? Accompany our historical night watchman, equipped with a storm lantern and halberd, through the romantic old town of Husum and let him tell you about past centuries. Follow him on the trail of miserly collars, charlatans and rebellions, and learn many interesting and curious facts from Husum’s past and present.
